Following the success of participation programmes within Shropshire County last season, England Squash very kindly agreed to provide some free coaching clinics, delivered by no other than Paul Carter – England Team Coach!
This fantastic opportunity was held on Sat 29 Feb at Shropshire Squash Club, supported by Shrewsbury School. 3 clinics were split between Juniors, Seniors and Ladies, with standards ranging from 101 to County level. 37 participants were put through their paces on court, with specific group selected goals for Paul to focus on, ranging from ‘have fun’, ‘want to improve’ to ‘become a pro’… phew, Paul certainly had his work cut out to deliver in such a short period!s
Coaches from all round Shropshire also took the opportunity to attend and meet with Paul to gain insight into how to further develop squash within their area, as well as fresh inspiration on session delivery.
The whole day was extremely enjoyable with coaches having time to network and talk with Paul, and players all had individual pointers from Paul for self-development. A clear takeaway message was more closed court sessions to focus on ball control and racket skills for player development. This was also highlighted to the participants, that effort and time was needed in this area to see improvement, above and beyond just playing games.
Shropshire County Squash would like to say a massive thank you to England Squash for facilitating this day and especially to Paul Carter for his time and efforts in trying to develop Shropshire squash players into pros!
